About

I’m a soldier currently serving in the raf regiment. After completing 2 tours I realised my true passion for writing, about my experiences, opinions, but most of all writing to inform people the true significance of events happening throughout the world. My aspiration is to become a war correspondent and inform people of the realities of a world we’d rather turn our back on. This blog’s aim to share the events of my life and of the lives of soldiers around the world wether that be as a serving soldier myself, or in the near future journalist.

I was interested to see the photo used of the crash site, my brother was one of the pilots of the Lancaster w 4104 which I believe this was his crash site, I’am 85 years old but hope to go to his grave again next year

    • It is indeed the crash sight of Lancaster W4104, in Neuss just outside Dusseldorf. I believe (correct me if I’m wrong) the aircraft was assigned to 156 Sqn pathfinders at the time with an incredibly varied crew of Brits, Canadians and an Australian. One of which, a flying officer McDonald obtained a DFC for his actions! I feel the image really demonstrates the sacrifices made for a cause that until recently wasn’t recognised. Thank you for being in touch and I’m honoured to have the opportunity to speak to the brother of one of these men.

Nice of you to reply and I look forward to reading more of your writings. I can’t tell you how it moves me emotionally whenever I read or hear about Afghanistan and not just because of my Son. Help for Heroes is my Charity and very close to my heart because there is not enough done to help the families of those who are maimed or who have lost their lives doing a job they enjoy and for serving their country and paying the utimate price. During my Son’s tour I worried all the time and prayed for him, his Regiment and all the boys and girls out there. I was told on many occasions ‘why are you worrying he didn’t have to join the forces’. My reply ‘I wouldn’t or couldn’t have stopped him…I’m very proud and he enjoys serving his country’ but he is MY Son and I love him so I have every right to worry.

    • It’s a small world! Amazing how many people you meet who did, or do similar things to myself. The degree is definitely the route I’m working towards, hoping to begin one next year in journalism, the photography is also something i’m very interested in as it fits so well with the things i try to write about. Thanks for the comment, hopefully in a few years i’ll be in the position your son is in! Thanks again

Having a son in the RAF Regiment who has been on one tour and due to go again very soon…from what he has said of his experience over there your words tell it how it really is and not what the press want you to believe. You guys are heroes and never let anyone tell you otherwise. I hope you achieve your ambition to be a war journalist…judging by this piece of writing you will be very good at it. Good luck.

    • Hope your son has a safe an productive tour, I’ve always said from the start of my writing, if I change just one persons outlook, or inform one person of the truth behind the stories i’ll have achieved my goal, and that comment achieved it for this piece of writing and so for that I thank you! In the near future I intend on writing a piece about the families perspective looking on from home, so i hope that will be of interest to you. Thanks, Tom

  5. thanks, i’ve never been so determined to make something as successful as my writing. It’ll be a passion far beyond a profession.
